Songs: Toy Cowboy (2004)

Written after my Grandpa died, but it is not about him. He never said these things to me, however he was a very wise and decent man. This song was written from the perspective of a little boy talking to his toy cowboy about the "facts of life" (recited from a conversation he heard between his grandfather and an older brother). The only "country" song I ever played- was kind of a joke.
My Grandpa used to say
Look here boy,
It's like my Grandpa said to me
You make it through your twenties
With a degree and a love for something
You'll be fine
Just look at this as scenery along the road of life
It's just unfortunate you'd been driving
Past potter's field that night
Cause it's not always what you wanted
And it's always somewhere in between
But you saddle back up and you kick it's ribs
Till you're both riding hard and mean
And if it's still not what you always wanted
By the time you're 65
Just hop on down and try your luck
It's all about your drive
Cause you get 5 points for trying
And 3 more for your grace
But you need 2 more and you're really not sure
That you'll even earn a place
Cause the final lap's the hardest
When you're running with a gimpy ass leg
So you better keep track there's not a whole lot of slack
But ya never gonna whine and beg
