9 Things I'm Sick of in the Pop Culture Media Experience

I found this draft I had written back in August but never published because it was originally titled "10 things" but I could only think of 9. Ha, now I titled it "9 Things", screw number 10.
Obviously I wasn't feeling too fond of the television that day. But looking back on the writing, I do believe I made some good points. One thing is for sure- I was watching way too much TV back then (due to unemployment). I'm sure that's why I was so disgruntled. Oh well, here it is in all its saltiness:

1.Steve-O's shocked expression everytime something or someone bites/penetrates his ass. Even jaded old me laughed out loud the first time he pulled his highjinx 5 years ago, but now it's used in commercials, time to hang that ass up Steve-O.

2.Horrible, modern "emo style" bands (Hawthorne Heights, My Chemical Romance, All American Rejects), deep brooding videos, and the like.

3.Comedies based on the media funded "racial divide" - white people saying black phrases like "Oh snap" and the classic "Talk to da hand" just for an easy laugh. This will include anything Snoop has ever said.

4.Hugh Hefner showing up every 4-6 months with his "girlfriends" on every major network's celebrity gossip programs (Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Inside Edition), only to have them declare that "he is an animal in bed" (meanwhile having a surprised expression and a "Who me?" grin).

5.Comedy Central's apparent lack of needy, B list celebrities that they elected Pamela Anderson's easilly targeted ass to roast, but then turned their offensive joke efforts toward the obviously gone, easier target Courtney Love.

6.Gwen Stefani's precision, chess like, career moves. And people gave Liz Phair a bad rap, huh.

7."Reality" TV formats. Specifically, the INXS one. Is Dave Navarro, the once ultimately cool member of Jane's Addiction (one of the best, most underground "alternative bands" of the 90's) really a media whore now also? It reminds me of the day Metallica's infamous "Black Album" came out. It disappointed me to the point of depression. How could a band that embodied my (and countless others) separation from the mainstream, now decide to cater to the needs of pop rock culture? Overnight? To become the enemy they used to sing about for years... was the almighty dollar really that powerful? This band went from being underground metal icons, to radio friendly, frat rock, and never batted an eyelash during the process. And Dave Navarro is just another example of this: proving that the ideals stressed previously could be bought and sold by the very media they appeared to rebel against.

8. Every commercial using the fat, spikey haired actor seen in the Capitol One ads with David Spade's bankrupt ass.

9. Remakes of classic films, cartoons, and/or TV shows into new "blockbuster" movies. Are they really out of good, new ideas in Hollywood that they have to purge the vaults for remnants of what was once just average material to begin with?
